There are many different types of greenhouses besides the ones that everyone is most familiar with.  Some greenhouses are designed for more temperate climate....A Frame Greenhouse

some for more cold climates.  The passive solar greenhouse has been known to maintain above freezing temperatures without auxiliary heat sources as far north as Canada.  Some houses, like the Uneven Span greenhouse, is designed for specific Terrain.  The Uneven span house is designed for hillside growing.  The underground greenhouse provides well insulated sides in areas where water drainage is not a problem, like in the high desert areas.  The coldframe structures are usually used to extend a growing season by allowing for seed starting much earlier than would normally be allowed.  All the greenhouses have their own specific pros and cons so it's important that you research the best one for your climate and terrain before investing a large amount of money building one.  Clicking the images below will take you to an article discussing that specific type of greenhouse (unless otherwise indicated).
